TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT – The Common Wealth Society of Barbados Lighting Ceremony
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT FOR THE COMMON WEALTH SOCIETY OF BARBADOS LIGHTING CEREMONY
On Wednesday 10th December 2025, the Common Wealth Society of Barbados, will be holding a lighting ceremony for a “Christmas in the Square” event, at Independence Square, Bridgetown, St. Michael. As a result, a number of traffic changes will take effect from 4:30 pm until the completion of the event.
PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURES
Fairchild street – The left lane from the junction with Bay Street to the traffic lights will be closed. (Only PSVs are allowed access)
TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS
a) Motorists travelling along Bay Street towards the city, can make a right turn onto Jemmotts Lane at the traffic lights, before making a left onto River Road and continuing into the city.
b) Alternatively, motorists travelling along Bay Street towards the city, can also make a right turn onto Wellington Street, before making a left onto Nelson Street and continuing into the city.
TRAFFIC DELAYS
As part of the lighting ceremony, the band of the Barbados Defence Force will leave Queens Park via the Nelson Gate (Crumpton Street) and proceed to Independence Square. As a result, expect traffic delays along the following roads.
a) Constitution Road
b) Crumpton Street
c) St. Michael Row
d) Bridge Street
e) Fairchild Street
OFFENCES
Any person who contravenes these rules or fails to comply with any order given by a member of The Barbados Police Service in uniform, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction, to a fine of five hundred dollars ($500BDS) or to imprisonment for a term of three (3) months.
These rules do not apply to vehicles used by The Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force, the Barbados Fire Service, or any emergency vehicle.
Police Officers will also be deployed on the day, to assist with all traffic management.
