TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT – The Common Wealth Society of Barbados Lighting Ceremony
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT FOR THE COMMON WEALTH SOCIETY OF BARBADOS LIGHTING CEREMONY
On Wednesday 10th December 2025, the Common Wealth Society of Barbados, will be holding a lighting ceremony for a “Christmas in the Square” event, at Independence Square, Bridgetown, St. Michael. As a result, a number of traffic changes will take effect from 4:30 pm until the completion of the event.
PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURES
Fairchild street – The left lane from the junction with Bay Street to the traffic lights will be closed. (Only PSVs are allowed access)
TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS
a) Motorists travelling along Bay Street towards the city, can make a right turn onto Jemmotts Lane at the traffic lights, before making a left onto River Road and continuing into the city.
b) Alternatively, motorists travelling along Bay Street towards the city, can also make a right turn onto Wellington Street, before making a left onto Nelson Street and continuing into the city.
TRAFFIC DELAYS
As part of the lighting ceremony, the band of the Barbados Defence Force will leave Queens Park via the Nelson Gate (Crumpton Street) and proceed to Independence Square. As a result, expect traffic delays along the following roads.
a) Constitution Road
b) Crumpton Street
c) St. Michael Row
d) Bridge Street
e) Fairchild Street
OFFENCES
Any person who contravenes these rules or fails to comply with any order given by a member of The Barbados Police Service in uniform, is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction, to a fine of five hundred dollars ($500BDS) or to imprisonment for a term of three (3) months.
These rules do not apply to vehicles used by The Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force, the Barbados Fire Service, or any emergency vehicle.
Police Officers will also be deployed on the day, to assist with all traffic management.
The Barbados Police Service thanks the members of the general public for their understanding and cooperation in this matter and apologises for any inconvenience these traffic changes may cause.
SHOOTING INCIDENT – Kendal Hill, Christ Church
The police at Oistins Station, are conducting investigations into a shooting which occurred along Kendal Hill, Christ Church, on Monday 8th December 2025, about 7:35pm.
CIRCUMSTANCES:
Initial investigations have shown that a male was in the area, when a group of persons approached and discharged a number of gunshots injuring him. He was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance personnel, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Investigations are continuing into this matter.

CRIMINAL CHARGES UPDATE – Ocean Maat Lolita Hinds
The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) Narcotics Unit, has arrested and formally charged Ocean Maat Lolita Hinds, 18 years of Lammings, St. Joseph, for the following offences committed on December 5th 2025:
● Possession of Cannabis
● Trafficking of Cannabis
● Intent to Supply Cannabis
● Importation of Cannabis
The total estimated weight of the suspected cannabis is 22.80 Kilograms, with an estimated street value of one hundred and eighty-two thousand four hundred dollars ($182,400.00 Bds) Barbados currency.
Hinds appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 8th December 2025. She pleaded not guilty to the offences and was granted bail to the sum of forty thousand dollars ($40,000.00 Bds) Barbados currency, with one surety. She is scheduled to reappear on Wednesday 11th March 2026.
CRIMINAL CHARGES UPDATE – Cherisse Romona Nanton
The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) Narcotics Unit, has arrested and formally charged Cherisse Romona Nanton, 22 years of Bournes Land, Silver Sands, Christ Church and Baxters Road, St. Michael, for the following offences committed on December 6th 2025:
● Possession of Cannabis
● Trafficking of Cannabis
● Intent to Supply Cannabis
● Importation of Cannabis
The total estimated weight of the suspected cannabis is 4.7 Kilograms, with an estimated street value of thirty-seven thousand six hundred dollars ($37,600.00 Bds) Barbados currency.
Nanton appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 8th December 2025. She pleaded guilty to the offences and was granted bail to the sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00 Bds) Barbados currency, with one surety. She is scheduled to reappear on Thursday 11th December 2025.

CRIMINAL CHARGES UPDATE – Jarell Stefon Sutherland
The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) Criminal Investigations Department (South), has arrested and formally charged Jarell Stefon Sutherland, 28 years of Ellerton, St. George, for the following offences committed on November 27th 2025:
● Use of Firearm
● Endangering Life – Akeil Jackson
● Endangering Life – Sachin Etwaroo
● Endangering Life – Chad Bynoe
● Endangering Life – Brandon Devonish
● Criminal Damage – Janelle Russell
● Criminal Damage – Patel Puckerin
Sutherland appeared before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes in the District ‘A’ Criminal Court, on Saturday 6th December 2025. He was not required to plead to the indictable offences and was remanded to the Barbados Prison Service (Dodds). The matter has been transferred to the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court for Monday 15th December 2025.

WANDERING – Cuthbert A Greaves
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the family, caregiver, or guardian of Cuthbert A Greaves, 76 years, who was discovered wandering in the area of Weymouth, St. Michael on Thursday 4th December 2025 about 8:00 pm.
DESCRIPTION:
Greaves is about five feet eight inches (5’ 8”) in height, of a slim build, dark complexion, big ears, medium mouth with two gold caps on the bottom row of his teeth and a protruding jaw. He has a low haircut and a low grey beard. Greaves was discovered wearing a short khaki cargo pants, an orange and white striped T- shirt, and barefooted. He also has a catheter installed.
